Richard Cockcroft

Northumberland

Target wheat yield: 12.5t/ha

Richard is originally from Yorkshire but moved to Northumberland three years ago and is now part of the family business in Berwick-Upon-Tweed. The 2000 acre mixed enterprise is managed in partnership with his brother and father and includes a pedigree herd of shorthorn beef cattle and a flock of NZ Romney and highlander sheep. Along with his father, Richard is responsible for the arable outputs growing milling and feed wheat, winter and spring oats, two row winter barley and spring malting barley, vining peas and OSR. Cultivations are based around a min-till system/ploughing depending on soil type and cropping. The farm has been mapped and uses variable rate liming/seed rates and P/K applications.

A graduate of Newcastle University he enjoys rugby and football, skiing, some shooting in the winter months and beach walks with his partner Megan and dog Bella.

Following University, Richard travelled around both islands with friends and is looking forward to returning to learn more about their agricultural industry.
