Ollie Blackburn

Somerset

Target wheat yield: 12t/ha

A graduate of Harper Adams with a degree in Agriculture, Ollie’s first job was in Saudi Arabia as an Arable Manager for Almarai, returning to the UK in 2009 to join the team as Assistant Farm Manager at Dillington Farms, South Somerset.

Recently promoted to Farm Manager, the estate is diverse and has a range of non-farming enterprises that complement the day to day farming activities. They farm 800ha growing a range of combinable crops, potatoes and forage crops, and have recently invested in a new robotic dairy system. This allows them to milk 350 cows through 6 robots with a rolling herd yield of 11,000 litres.

Ollie is a first-generation farmer who found his interest sparked through holidaying with his parents in Upper Teesdale. The family that owned the farm where they holidayed was hugely supportive and encouraged him to pursue a career in agriculture.

New Zealand is a country Ollie has always wanted to visit but never quite made it. He is keen to hear about their approach to farming, in particular share farming as a way of attracting new entrants. Ollie is married with a 10-month-old little girl and loves his rugby!
